I am a children’s book author, part-time fairy, unicorn whisperer and manic day dreamer. I live in Devon, England in a big windy castle near the River Culm with my human family, pet dogs, cats and lots of magical creatures. I can often be seen talking to magical creatures in the garden unless it’s raining as the fairies can’t get their wings wet!. Then I’ll go inside and persuade my Brownie, named Honey to make me a nice cup of tea whilst I write stories for you. This seems to keep her happy and me!
Here’s the long and probably more grown up version
What do I do?
I’m still a children’s book author – there’s no getting away from that. Even if I don’t get them down into books they are whizzing around in my mind all day long!
Why do I do it?
The greatest leaders believe in the impossible.
They have imagination and inspiration.
Our children are our future leaders therefore they also need to believe in the impossible.
I write books for children because I’m passionate about fostering the imagination of children. I believe in magic in every form; the magic of nature, the magic of hope, the magic of life and the magic of love. But most importantly the magic of children… So – I guess I believe in magic!
What else do I do?
- I’m also a wife and a mother, not necessarily in that order (although my husband would like to disagree!)
- I write a bit of poetry (not the clever literate kind just plain old rhyming heartfelt verse kind)
- I do other things too – lots of them but I can’t think of any right now.
Where do I live?
I live in Bradninch, a small town near Exeter, Devon, England. It’s a beautiful county that is well worth a visit if you get the time. It rains a bit but that’s why it’s so lush and green. And well, fairies live here too . .. No, really, they do!.
The personal stuff
These are my furry babies, my pugs; Max (the black one) and Chloe (the fawn one).
Puggles the Pug in my first and second books was inspired by Chloe. Cute isn’t she?! Max is very old now, he’s 9 (63 in human years!) and Chloe is 4 (only 30 years old).
I also have three cats. Yes, I do love cats!. Balu is a black 13 year old cat who hates the camera and two black and white kittens named Merlin and Harry, after you guessed it – the two most powerful wizards of all time.
I’m married to a South African. We met at work, fell in love and he sort of stayed here. We have a daughter, Chelsea Rose, who words cannot describe. She’s pretty awesome and my inspiration.
That’s pretty much all about me. In a previous life, some three years ago, I had a manic corporate career in Retail buying. Now I don’t. Now I’m me. Everything I write is from the heart and I hope you’ll stick around a while.
